SUMMER TIME ACT.
MR. SIDEY DOES NOT FAVOUR REFERENDUM.
Christchurch, February 20. A proposal that a plebiscite on summer time be taken at the same time as the general election this year was referred to Mr. T. K. Sidey to-day. Mr. Sidey contended that prophecies of disastrous results f/oiri summer time had been falsified and the Act had worked remarkably smoothly.# Under the circumstances supporters- of the Act were now entitled to ask that it should be placed on the Statute book without special provision in the Act. of last year necessitating its re-enactment after a year of trial. It would then be in the same position as other statutes and could be repealed if necessary. Mr. Sidey indicated he would not yield to the demand for a referendum.
