DAYLIGHT SAVING

THE FARMER’S GROAYL

There never was a farmer, Or I haven’t met him yet, Who didn’t curse, the weather , Wjhether it be fine or wet. It seems to be the birthright, Of the tiller of the soil, To growl about, the climate, Though it freeze or though it boil.

There never was a farmer, At least not that I know; Who didn’t think thv price of wool,' Too H?gh or else too low. Who didn’t think the butter fat, No matter what the price; Would have found a better market, If they’d taken his advice. You should see the Farmers Union, • Each speaker’s eye agleam, All growling or praising Coates, And lettin’ off the steam. But nowadays the farmer, Forgets poor Gordon Coates; Forgets the price of cheese and eggs, . And forgets the price of oats. Forgets to curse the weather, ' Though the days be dry and hot ; Forgets to curse the middleman, (A nasty, scurvy lot). You never hear a word about, The County Council rate; - Though that can rouse the farmer, To a horrid hymn of hate. 9 All these old familiar things, Which used to set him raving; Are bagatelles —mere incidents, Compared with daylight saving. From north to south, and east, to west, You’ll find it is a fact; The farmers join in fuming o’er, The Daylight Saving Act. They think we poor old . towny chaps, Are getting all the fun; Since Sidey’s legislation, Saved us one more hour of sun. But they really needn’t criticise, The" way town folks behave, For though we’re laylight saving, It’s the only thing we save.
