TRAGIC DEATH OF INFANT

FALLS IN COPPER OF WATER

Wjanganui, Yesterday. At Castlecliff late yesterday afternoon an extremely sad fatality occurred when the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Everard, residing in Egmont Street, was drowned in a tragic canner. The dereased child’s name is Arthur James Everard, and he was about a, year and eight months old.: Particulars of the fatality show that the. child wandered from its home and was later missed. Even- , tually it was found by a neighbour whose name is given as Mrs. Eva Hitphcock, drowned in a copper gt the residence of another neighbour, Mrs. Hannah Berry. Mr. Everard is a watersider employed at Castlecliff. An inquest will be held, and arrangements in connection with the inquiry are to be made to-day. UNFORTUNATE SEQUEL. An unfortunate co-incidence following the tragedy was a mishap to the neighbour, Mrs. Hannah Berry, aged 45, at whose residence the child was drowned.

Mrs. Berry later was admitted to the Wjanganui Hospital suffering from a leg injury resulting from a fall.

From the institution last night it was reported that Mrs. Berry had a fractured fibula bone in a leg but her condition was stated to be comfortable.
