SWIMMING.
The local baths have been particularly well patronised of late, and during the last few days the attendances have been records.
A great deal of interest has been centred around Harrison (Foxton), and Ntirth (Wanganui), lately. Last Friday night a 100 yards race resulted in Harrison just beating his opponent by a touch and the time is reported to be very good. On Saturday night it was arranged that another race should take place and a number of people waited at the baths for a considerable time to witness the event. The local swimmer did not put in an appearance, however, until the spectators had departed, when a 25 yards sprint between the two experts resulted in a dead heat. North appears to have the advantage, over Harrison on the turns.
It is understood that a squad of men from the camp will give a lifesaving demonstration in the baths one night this week. A few races will also be staged.
The following will represent the camp in the swimming sports on Friday evening:— Bombadiers Denton and Marshant, Lance —Bombadiers H. 11. McKay and Gillespie* and Gunners, Robertson, Blowdon, Marlman, and Moilier.
