QUARTERLY RETURNS,
WITHDRAWALS EXCEED DEPOSITS.
Withdrawals from the Post Office Savings Bank for the quarter which ended on December 31, exceeded deposits by £757,231. The excess for the corresponding month of 1926 ufas £705,132. The deposits for the quarter amounted to £7,152,342, as against £7,195,824 deposited for the 1926 period. The sum of £7,909,573 was withdrawn, compared with B the £7,900,956 taken out during the corresponding quarter of 1926. Of all the postal districts of the Dominion New Plymouth alone recorded an excess of deposits'over withdrawals, 'the margin being £10,848. Western Samoa, the returns from 'which are incorporated, showed a balance on the right side, the excess of deposits being £5594. The following figures show the amount of deposits and withdrawals at districts of chief interest:—
Money orders issued amounted to .£1,220,696, against £1,221,836 in 1926, and orders paid £1,126,292, compared with £1,121,722. POST AND TELEGRAPH REVENUE. The total postal and telegraph revenue amounted to £883,817, compared with £892,230 for the 1926 quarter. The telegraph side provided £518,333 (£499,288), and the postal £365,483 (£392,941).
