CONFLAGRATION AT MARTON.
Marton, February 6. A fire early on Sunday morning destroyed the stables of Mr Clarke, a carrier, of Ilunterville, and severely damaged a shop owned by Mr W. Hodge, and the offices of the Farmers’ Distributing Company. The flames had a strong hold when discovered. The buildings were very old and were as dry as tinder,' so that there was little chance of saving the contents, which included two motor ears, a motor lorry, a motor cycle, several gigs, and stable equipment, but the firemen were able to keep the flames in check. Apart from the damage to the premises named, there was ho loss, but the loss to Mr Clarke, Mi* Hodge, and the Farmers’ Distributing Co. is considerable. It is covered by insurance. The flames lit up the country for miles around. Despite the early hour, a large crowd gathered and the fire raged for several hours. The total damage is estimated at £3,000.
