FOXTON’S ANNUAL RACE MEETING.
TO-DAY AND MONDAY. The above club’s annual race meeting /will be held on their picturesque property at Foxton today and Monday, and as there is every indication of the weather being gloriously fine, a record attendance should be registered. In order to increase its popularity the club wisely reduced the prices of admission to the lawn enclosure to 4/- for gentlemen and 2/- for ladies, and there is no doubt that this step will be greatly appreciated by pts numerous patrons. The Foxton racecourse is noted for its adaptability as a holiday resort for racing patrons, and picnic parties on tht natural hillside, bordering the course, add to their pleasures. Considering the dry spell of weather that has been prevalent for some time and the number of horses that have felt the effect of the hard tracks, the acceptances can be considered highly satisfactory,' and although there are sure to be so veral seratehings through dual engagements, it is just possible, that with .the exception of one race, there will be two dividends. Mr. H. Mitchell (Kiinbolton), has charge of the publican’s booths, and Mr. J. Walls, the well known .local caterer, will attend to the luncheon department. HACK HURDLES. , The first race, starts at 11.45, with a brush over hurdles, in which San Pedro, 10.9, is top weight, and the son of Rangitira, has been racing very consistently of late, whilst Polyphemus is sure to-.carry a lot of the public’s confidence. Kilburff and Nucleus are both trained at Marton the being a recent addition from Auckland, and is a new aspirant for hurdle honours. A tido that will be well fancied is San Pedro,Polyphemus and Kilburn. NOVICE STAKES. The Novice Stakes, 6 furlongs, has eighteen acceptors, of which Braeberry and Warfille will not face the starter. Discourse, with ,L. S. Morris in the saddle, is sure jto be the popular fancy and may share the honours with Cloyne when the winning numbers are hoisted. THE CUP. . A very even field of eight have paid up in the Foxton Cup, and Royal Game (L. G. Morris), is credited with a good gallop at Trentham this week. Kilmiss (R. J. .Maekie), ran a good race at Feilding Spring Meeting on the second day, also at Ashhurst, but Henna on recent form appears to be the pick of the handicap, and with Royal Game should share favouritism. Gaze (B. €. Brown), has not won a race since.the winter of 1926, in the Century Hurdle Race at Wanganui, was galloping in great j heart’ at Awapuui, and must be reckoned within the final decision. Of the remainder of the field Ardfinnan, Our Jack, Bent and Twin!:. Bent may be the most likely aspirant as a Cup winner. However, Royal Game and Henna (W. H: Jones), are sure to be the popular fancies, and the public may be justified is their selection. 1 HEMATANGI HACK. In the Himatangi Hack, 6 furlongs, there is a field of ten, and recent winners are Vigilance (which will be ridden by L. G. Morris), Holus Bolus and Green Acre, and this trio will carry the confidence of ! the public. Lady Cynthia was badly kicked before the New Year but has evidently recovered, whilst Lin Arlington, Borsalinc and White Ringlet have good form for recommendation, so that the field should provide a good betting race, and possibly Vigilance and Holus Bolus will be handy at the right end of the race.
AWAHOU HACK. ' In the Awahou Hack there are ten acceptors, but as there are several dual acceptors, it is hard to say which race they will start in. Kawhakina, Volplane and Twink may be in the fighting line when they reach the judge’s box. ANNIVERSARY HANDICAP. There is 'a select field of six in ithe open sprint .(the Anniversary Handicap), with Epistle top weight, 8.13. Vast Acre B.G and Dobbin 7.10, and these three are the pick of the acceptors, and should monopolise the betting on the machine. Epistle is in great form, but may have to lower its colours to Vast Acre, who is very slippery over this distance. Dobbin’s performance at Marton - on the first day Avas no fluke, Avhich may be repeated. MAROTIRI HACK. In the Marotiri Hack, some have been paid up for and the top weight Helotis 8.9 looks a “good thing” to carry most of the public’s money. Bissac and Holus Bolus (if reserved for this race), may cause'.the top weight some trouble. HERRINGTON HACK HANDICAP. Wheuuanui has been scratched for the Herringtoq Handicap over 7 furlongs. Bonoghe is reported to be sore. Beaumont (L. G. Morris), reads well, and if the going was a bit softer, there Avould be no need to look further for the favourite, unless Othon is an eleventh hour fancy.
