Bishop Cleary, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, spent his 70th ' birthday in bed at a private hos- ' %'£; pital on Sunday. The “New Zealand Herald” states that, although / ' he is making steady progress after « his recent operation, he will not be able to resume duties for some time.
The death took place at “View Halloa,” Marton, on Thursday of the wife, of Mr. D. G. Riddiford, in her 68 th year. For a number of years Mrs. Riddiford was prominent in the hunting fields of" the Rangitikei district and she has also hunted with the Manawatu, Hawke’s Bay, Pukuranga and Dannevirke hounds. In social and church life at Marton she will be greatly missed, for her untiling energy and devotion to any movement for the welfare of the district. The late Mrs. Riddiford who was in her 68th yoar, was a dangle ter of the late Mr. John Glennie, of Now South, Wales.
