WEST COAST DROUGHT
BUSH FLUES GENERAL. Greymouth, January 19. The West Coast is experiencing a drought, there having been only an inch and arhalf rainfall during the past five weeks. Bush dres are general, but no serious damage has resulted. The water shortage is handicapping sawmilling in some localities, while the rivers generally are exceptionally low. Forest service) officers have been called on to protect plantations in the vicinity of the Ross road, where the bush has been ablaze, and also along the Midland railway line and to the southward.
