CAPE BRETT CATCHES. A "RECORD” MAKO. RUSSELL, Jan. 13. The latest catches of monsters of the deep off Cape Brett are: Mr C. S. Adamson, swordfish, 2001 b. Ho made up liis mind to go home at 5.50 p.m., and when trolling at four miles towards _ home he hooked a “swordie,” which he landed at 6.10 p.m. Mr Huntingdon White-Wickham, of London: Hammerhead shark, 2831 b: also a record mako for this season, 4521 b. The previous record was 4111 b. Mr White-Wickham has a fine tally of big game fish, numbering 14 for 15 days’ angling, with a total weight of 39281 b and ail average of 280,641 b, for this season, including the world’s record broadbill and the above-mentioned mako. Sir Thomas Bridges is expected to arrive from Australia about the middle of February. RECORD STRIPED MARLIft. CAUGHT ATWHANGAROA. WHANGAROA, Jan. 13. Fishing from the launch Reelemin at .Whangaroa yesterday, Mr Stanley Ellis, of Hamilton, landed a fine swordfish weighing 3081 b. This is the record for the season up to date for striped marlin, and it makes the third swordfish landed by Mr Ellis this season. A large broadbill was also Hooked from the same launch. After putting up a great fight for two hours the fish sounded and eventually died on the bottom, in spite of all the skill to raise it. The. strain on the lino was so great that it broke, to the disappointment of the angler.
