Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Mason, have returned to Foxton after spending a holiday in the Nelson district. A London cable announces the death of Thomas Hardy, the novelist and poet, aged 87, His last poem appeared in the Times on ■Christmas Eve. Among his more famous prose are Under the Greenwood-Tree, Far from the Madding Crowd, Toss of the dUrbervilles, Jude the O’psonro and Wessex Tales. l. a
