MANAWATU FLAXMILLERS’ ASSOCIATION.

EXECUTIVE MEETING,

An executive meeting; of the Manawatu Flaxmillcrs’ Association was held in the Racing Club office this morning, presided over by Mr H. A. Seifert (chairman). Also present were Messrs H. Berry, H. Seifert, A. Brown, J. S. Moir, A. Eraser and D. R. Ogilvy. Messrs T. Wilson, E. Sutton, and G. Rough were also in attendance. Ah apology for absence was received from the secretary (Mr R. H. Spencer). CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows: From the Minister of Marine, in reply to the Association’s letter re flax refuse in water ways, stating that it was not considered advisable to in any.way amend the regulations governing the polution of streams. —Received. From the Minister of Agriculture, in reply to the Association’s letter asking that the Department provide a bonus of £IO,OOO for the improvement of flaxmill machinery, stating that the matter would be given consideration at an early date.—Received, it being decided to thank the Department for its reply and to express the hope that a favourable decision be arrived at. GENERAL. The Chairman reported that since last meeting, in company with Mr Ross, he had interviewed Mr Cockayne in connection with arranging for a grading officer to. keep in contact with the millers. Mr Cockayne had been favourable to, the proposal and as a result Mr Ferris had visited the district shortly after.

Members expressed their approval of the scheme, which they considered very helpful to millers and a step in the right direction. Various matters were discussed in committee.

Accounts amounting to £7 10/were passed for payment. A vote of thanks was accorded ■the' Foxton Racing Club for the use of their office for meeting purposes. At the conclusion of business the executive conferred with Messrs W. Petrie (Chief Hemp Grader) and Mr Cockayne (Department of Agriculture) at the gradiug shed where sample hanks of iibre were on exhibition.
