A parrot at the London Zoo which is estimated to he about a century old recently laid an egg. This frequently happens with these birds, and is usually a sign that their lives are nearly at an end. The Jordan has been accounted the most crooked stream in the world. But it cannot compare with White River, Arkansas, which travels 1000 miles in traversing an airline distance of 30 miles. Mrs. Richards, of Bredgar, Kent, who is 98, walks eight miles every Friday to draw her old-age pension, and has 130 direct living descendants —5 children, 50 grandchildren, and 75 great-great-grand-children. An ambitious project to establish a 12-storied hotel in the centre of Auckland, involving a capital of £200,000, has collapsed owing to the failure of the promotors to secure capital from Australia when appealed to, when local subscriptions proved insufficient, lhe owners now propose to subdivide the site for sale.
