DRUNKEN MOTOR-DRIVER SENT TO PRISON.
LICENSE SUSPENDED FOR FIVE YEARS. Christchurch, January 7. “1 cannot lot this man off considering his record. I think he had better go to gaol,” said (Mi 1 . E. D. Mosley, S.M., to-day, in sentefleirig George Novell, aged 42, to 14 days’ imprisonment for being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car on the main /South Road. Novell,• Avlio is, or rather was, a meat van driver, pleaded guilty to the intoxication charge, and also to breaking his prohibition order. ■Senior-Sergeant Lewis said that Nevell Avas seen driving a car at Socbburn by a constable who became suspicious of the man’s condition and arrested him. Nevell was taken to the police station, where, he was examined by the police surgeon, Avho certified that he Avas drunk. Nevell drove a meat van had a private car. He was a very dangerous man to be oil the road. In 1926 a prohibition order Avas issued against him, and last year -he was fined £lO for being intoxicated in charge of a motorcar. He was a married man Avith four children. Nevell was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment and his license was cancelled for 5 years.
