Miss C. Griffin, of Wellington, is at present spending a holiday ' i Foxton. The friends of Mr. G. F. Smith, will be pleased to know that he is making rapid recovery from his recent serious illness."
The friends of Charlie McCarthy, will be pleased to know that, he returned home on Tuesday evening, after spending ten weeks in the Palmerston North Hospital. Mr. S. J. McDonnell, first assistant at the Taihape D.H. School (and at one time on the staff of the local school), was presented with a case of cutlery by the Taihape school at the breaking-up ceremony last week, on the eve of his marriage. Visiting Wellington at present is Bishop Juji Nakada, of the Japan Holiness Church, Oriental Missionary Society. The Bishop’s visit is a sequel to the world-wide tour made by some fifty members of Ratana’s party a few years ago. His main object in coming to New Zealand is to visit the Maoris, and he expects to attend a Maori convention at Rat ana Pa, Wanganui, next week. >
Mr-. A. Wj. Blair, barrister and solicitor, of Wellington, has been appointed to the Judgeship vacated by Mi' Justice Stringer. Born at Dunedin on October 25th, 1875, Mr Blair is the son of the late Mr W. N. Blair, M.U.S., formerly Engineer-in-Ciiief of New Zealand. When Sir 'Charles Skerrett was elevated to the Chief Justiceship, Mr Blair became head of the firm of Messrs Chapman, Tripp, Blah - , Cooke,, and Watson, Mr. Blair has been a member of the Wellington District Law Society since 1912, and has twice held the office of president.
