In a recent report of the annual meeting' of the Manawatu Racecourse Trustees, Mr. A. Fraser’s name appeared as secretary. Mr. Fraser is not secretary, but one of the Trustees.

The statement that a mosquito investigation committee existed in Auckland, and that it . had done valuable work in the way of research into the problem of mosquito control was made by the Mjnister of Health,Hon. J. t A. Young, at the quarterly meeting of the Board of Health. The Minister added that the Government had some time ago subsidised the committee to. enable it to carry on its work. He assured■the board that the Government was quite sympathetic to work of that kind, and hoped that a solution of the mosquito problem .would soon be . found.
The .woodwork' class in Connection'with the local District High School “packed up tools” yesterday for the school year. Mr. Bull, woodwork instructor, informed our representative that the pupils in the various divisions had done well and this was evidenced by the display of a number of useful articles such as steps, book-cases, tables, a wheelbarrow, etc. The lessons learnt in the correct use of the tools, enables the boys to carry out much useful work in their homes. Next year the woodwork classes will be held in the building now in course of erection and at the end of the year on exhibition of the practical side of their studies will be on view. • A memorial to the late Mr. Malcolm Nicol, of Auckland, who was Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand Freemasons in 1892-93, and Grand Secretary from 1900 to 1921, lias been erected over his grave-in Hillsborough Cemetery, Auckland, in pursuance of the resolution passed by the.. Grand Lodge iast year. Forty years ago Mr. .Nicol was one of the leading .shipowners in Auckland; largely concerned dn the islands trade. 'For many years he was'Mayor of Devonport, and at another period chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board. He was one of the founders of the Masonic Lodge, and its second Grand Master, and in bis career as Grand Secretary did much for the advancement of the institution. The monument takes the form of, an obelisk of, Scottish granite, and bears a suitable inscription, surmounted by a Masonic symbol.
