“TOO MANY CROOKS.” Laugh waves* mingled with crime wavfes are the ruling forces of “Too Many Crooks,” the Paramount picture at the Town Hall Cabaret on Wednesday. The photoplay, whi.ch marks Mildred Davis’ return to the screen after an absence of almost four years, is a farce comedy of a wealthy debutante who believes she is capable of writing a good crook drama. To obtian realism, she invites four members of New York’s best underworld soeeity to her home for a week-end party, that she may study them first hand, —which is what starts the laughs, mix-ups and thrills. Following the appearance of Rene Adoree in a Chinese role in “Mr. Wu,” a beautiful, accomplished performance, she now steps gaily baek into her own nationality as a native of Paris in “On Ze Boulevard,” Metro -Gold wyn-May er’s latest comedy romance, showing at the Town Hall on Friday. Lew Cody plays the leading male role as Gaston the waiter, who attempts to become a man of fashion on the boulevards after winning first prize in the Grand Lottery.
