Some little known facts regarding the amount of liquor that a “pony” or whisky glass will hold were given by counsel for the accused in a case heard in the 1 olk.e Court at Port Aranui, in which one of the principal points to be decided was the amount of beer that the accused had consumed, says thcPoverty Bay Herald. When the solicitor stated that such a glass held only 4A tablespoonfuls of liquid the court looked incredulous. “So when you help yourself to a whisky, and till the glass up to there,” continued counsel indicating a point on the glass, “and think ‘that’s a good one,’ you’ve only taken one tablespoonful.” “That’s unfortunate, isn’t it?” remarked Mr. E. C. Lev;Vey, S.M., with a smile. Counsel added that it took six or seven “pony” glasses of liquid to make one imperial pint, and to decide the question definitely, the glass produced in court was measured, and was found to contain 4i fluid ounces, when filled to the brim.
