A NEW INDUSTRY.
METAL CHEESE CONTAINERS
The manufacture of metal containers for cheese is to he commenced in Hawera next month, and for this purpose the company handling the containers has arranged a lease with the Winter Show Co. for a piece in the main hall of the Winter Show buildings, where* the plant for manufacturing the containers will he installed. The plant is being manufactured in Sydney, and Mr. Reynolds, a representative of the company, who has been in Hawera for some time, will proceed to Australia next week and return with the plant. Supplies of sheet metal will he received in Hawera, and be stamped in two halves, and the containers made slightly convex across the top, that when the containers are evacuated the outside air pressure will convert the convexity into a concavity, thereby consolidating the cheese. After being stamped at the Hawera depot the containers will lie delivered to the factories at a cost of 2/6, which includes the royalty charged, and every facility is to be given dairy factories to make use of the process and test it out, especially in the way of making trial shipments by dispatching portions
of their outputs packed in containers to allow of a comparison being made.
