SENSATION AT BLUFF.

ACCOUNTANT LAID OUT. LARGE SUM MISSING. Invercargill, December 1. A sensational affair is reported from Bluff, where Mr. Arthur Valentine, accountant to the Harbour Board, was found about 1.30 this morning Ijnng unconscious in the board’s office with a wound on his .head, and the sum of approximately £2OO missing, and presumably taken by the assailant. Mr. Valentine states that he was making up the pay-sheets when he received a violent blow from behind. 'He remembered nothing until the police arrived an hour later. At the time of the occurrence most of the , Bluff people were on the wharf seeing the new tug Southland off on her first trip to Stewart Island. Detectives are investigating the affair.
