Edwin James, aged 76 years, a dairy farmer at Parkvale was found dead in an’ easy chair at his residence shortly after eight o’clock last night, having died from a pea rifle wound in the head. Deceased who was in Carterton until late in the afternoon, returned home in apparently good spirits, and while members of the family were attending to the milking operations, all hands being employed .owing to a breakdown in the electric power, deceased remained in the house. When discovered he was sitting in the chair with the pea rifle between his legs, the discharge having passed from under the chin, penetrating the head. The late Mr. Janies was a married man, with a wife and grown-up family of five daughters and four sons. He had been a resident of the Wairarapa for many fears.
