CHARGE OF VAGRANCY.

At the local police court this morning, before Mr. J. K. Hornblow, J.P:, Martin Kelly, arrested on a charge of vagrancy, pleaded guilty and asked for a chance to make good, as he had work to go to. ‘Constable Owen stated that the accused periodically came into town and owing to his dirty and drunken habits became a nuisance. He had previously been befriended by a local hotel keeper, but his conduct yesterday had necessitated the calling in of the police. There were 'previous convictions against accused. Accused in answer to the Bench said that he had work to go to, in the flax swamps. Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if , called upon within three months, and ordered to leave the town.
