ARBITRATION BILL.
EVIDENCE CONCLUDED. Final evidence was tendered to the Parliamentary Labour Bills Committee on Tuesday concerning (lie Arbitration Bill. Mr. P. T. Robinson, representing flax workers, said that he wished to make statements regarding Mr. Seifert’s evidence. The workers had not struck for six months. The facts were that the employers had closed their mills because the prices were not good enough. He disagreed with the statement that the price of the product was fixed outside the Dominion. At a conference by order of the Judge to fix a sliding scale of wages in the industry, an agreement had been reached after a long sitting, but next day the employers repudiated it. This closed the evidence to the committee, which will meet later in the week to consider its report. It had held fifteen meetings on nine days, occupying about 45 hours. There were 43 witnesses.
