CYCLE TRACK ON EASTON PARK.
COUNCIL APPROVES PLANS. At last night’s Borough Council meeting a letter was received from the Foxton Amateur Cycling Club asking for permission to construct a cycle track on Easton Park (plans and specifications of which were enclosed) and asking the Council if it could make a grant towards the work if permission was granted, from the Reserves funds. The Mayor said that he would be in favour of the Council granting the Club permission to construct the track provided the necessary money was raised before the work was commenced. Cr .Parkin said that the Cricket Club had dug a big hole in the centre of the park for a pitch but the work had not been completed. The Mayor said that the Cricket Club had called tenders for the work of laying down the pitch, but they had been too high and members had decided to do the work themselves. That was one of the reasons he had suggested that the necessary money be in hand to do the work before permission be granted the Cycling Club to construct a track.
Cr. Ross explained, the plans and specifications of the track to the Council.
Cr.' Walker asked whether the Council would be responsible for any accidents that might occur on the track.
Cr. Ross: It is nothing to do with us.
Cr. Parkin explained that the Club had its own insurance scheme. On the motion of Crs. Walker and Parkin the following resolution was carried: —
“That permission be granted tlie Cycling Club to construct a cyclingtrack on Easton Park, the work not to be commenced, however, until the Club is in possession of sufficient money to carry out the work.”
