“BARDLEYS THE MAGNIFICENT.” John Gilbert, who established himself in a niche in the hall of screen fame with his portrayal of the role of “Jim Apperson” in ‘,The Big Parade,” achieves a further remarkable screen triumph in “Bardleys the Magnificent,” the new picture at the Town Hall on Friday. This attraction is King Vidor’s screen version of the novel by Rafael Sabatini, the noted author of “Scaramouche” and “The Sea Hawk.” It s a delightful romance of France during the most colourful years of its history; the picturization of the novel is spectacular in the extreme, and has many most unusual features. The part that Gilbert portrays with such marked brilliancy is that of Bardleys, whom all men, and not a few women, called “The Magnificent.” His main characteristics, as suggested by Sabatini, and indicated by Gilbert seem to have been an endless fascination for the ladies, a merry wit, and an eager sword that bade men beware of questioning his motives or actions. A most intriguing character —and as portrayed by the star of “The Big Parade” —most entertaining. Prices l/-**and 1/6. A splendid outdoor picture, “Wings of the Storm,” featuring Thunder the marvel dog, is booked for Saturday. Cast in the role of a young heiress is Virginia Brown Faire, whose winsome beauty showed to best advantage amid scenes of primal nature. Reed Howes too, in the role of a forest ranger, fits admirably into his part while the rugged William Russell makes a realistic villain. Then there is Thunder, a dog whose understanding of the part he plays seems almost human. Prices as usual.
