“NEW ZEALAND FREE LANCE ANNUAL.”
CHARMING PRESENTATION PLATE: “THE LITTLE DUCHESS” (IN COLOURS).
This year’s Annual of the “New Zealand Free Lance,” just out of the press, is a veritable feast of illustration and a gold-mine of good holiday reading. To say that it goes “one better” than previous Annuals is to pay it the highest possible compliment. The most popular and striking feature this year is undoubtedly the very beautiful coloured presentation plate of the Duchess of York; a happy, smiling portrait of Her Royal Highness, specially taken during her tour of the Dominion. Suitably framed, it will make a charming souvenir of the Royal Visit and a happy reminder of the little Duchess. Just the kind of Annual to read on a holiday, and to tantalise people in the Old Country, making them wish they were here too! The coloured picture cover, showing a party of deep-sea anglers out in a fishing-launch, and a big sword-fish leaping out of the sparkling water, is a lively illustration of the exciting sport which is making New Zealand famous the world over.
It is impossible to enumerate all the good things inside the complete 80 pages. On the pictorial side, there arc 32 pages of beautifullyfinished photographic pictures, illustrating interesting scenes, characters, and incidents of New Zealand life and sport; full-page cartoons, and humorous pictures and sketches galore. Then there are over a dozen short stories, mostly of New Zealand interest, two fairy stories for children, and some beautiful poems of New Zealand life and scenery.
