MYSTERIOUS POISONING.
MAN DEAD, COMPANION NOT LIKELY TO RECOVER. Hamilton, Yesterday. A poison tragedy with which were connected some veyy mysterious features occurred at Karamu, a farming district 18 miles south-west of Hamilton.on Sunday afternoon. Two farmers, Allan Cornall, aged 31, and James Cheyne, aged 41, consumed some liquor, with the result that Cornall was fatally poisoned and Cheyne is now unconscious and in a critical condition. The two men had been to a dance on Friday night and returning home in their car, they found what appeared to be a sealed bottle of beer in the vehicle. Cornall and Cheyne decided yesterday to drink the liquor and at two o’clock opened the bottle. Each consumed a glass and both immediately suffered great pain and developed symptoms of poisoning. Help was summoned but Cornall died at five o’clock after suffering great agony. Cheyne is in a critical condition and is not expected to recover. He has been removed to the Waikato Hospital. Cornall leaves three children. Cheyne is a married man with five children.
