CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor)

Sir, —As one who consumes a fair amount of petrol for motor transport and pays county rates, may I express the opinion that this tax is the most equitable, but the jump for the start-off to 4d a gallon is a bit high. I hope some reduction will be made. But sir, what hits us harder than the petrol tax is the rotten state of the road between Foxton and Palmerston North, at least that portion of it which ends with the Manawatu County road at Rangiotu. This road concerns most of us at this end and I would like to know how long it will be before the Manawatu County Council give us back some benefit for the extra jnoney they will derive from the tax? In my opinion we have not been getting a fair deal and its time something was done. Yours, etc., COUNTY RATEPAYER.
