BOWLING.

A special general meeting of members of the local Bowling Club was held last evening, to consider important matters concerning the present season.

A motion was brought forward, by Mr. Barr, and which promoted a good deal of discussion, concerning the conditions under which the Nye Ferns would be competed for during the season. It was decided that these trophies be called in immediately, and that the first match for the season be between two teams drawn by ballot.

It was also decided that Wednesday next be sot aside for the introduction of new members to the green, and that the handicapping committee subsequently meet for the purpose of classifying players. A further motion brought forward by Mr Walker, proposing a system of control in the arrangement of rinks for friendly play occasioned iengthy discussion. After an explanation of systems in vogue in some other clubs, it was agreed that a system of discs, together with two boards, for “A” and “B” players,' be inaugurated, wherewith at 2.15 o’clock on Wednesdays discs representing players present be placed in a ballot, the two grades to lie drawn alternately, the first four ■drawn to become the Nye Ferns "challenging rink, the remaining rinks to. engage in friendly play as drawn from ballot. It was resolved that the Wilford Cup be set aside as a pairs trophy for evening play, conditions to be drawn up by the Committee. It was reported that a petroldriven mower had been demonstrated at the green during the afternoon, and had proved itself to be a very efficient machine. As the Club at the present time required a new mower it was decided to purchase the machine, part of the cost of which was generously donated by members present, and it was decided to invite other members to contribute further donations. . The question of the employment of ,a caretaker was left in the hands of the Committee, the cutting of the green being generously undertaken by the secretary, the caretaker to devote the greater part of his time to the rolling of the green. This afternoon the Oroua Club, Feilding, will hold the offijeial opening of their green.
