A DINNER RAFFLE.

BREACH OF GAMING ACT. Christchurch, Yesterday. In order to raise.'funds for' a Christchurch party for the poorer children of Prebbleton a number of ladies of the district organised a raffle in which the prize was a Sunday dinner. Because of this they were charged in the Magistrate’s Court to-day with a breach of the Gaming Act by commencing a. scheme whereby a prize could be won by a game of chance. In view of the fact that other cases of a similar nature will be coming before the court to-morrow, the Magistrate adjourned the hearing until Monday. The police said that undoubtedly it was the good intention of the good ladies of Prebbleton for a good cause, but unfortunately they brought themselves within the four corners of the Gaming Act.
