INVITED TO UNITED STATES

AUSTRALIAN POLO TEAM

NEW YORK, Sept. ,‘3O.

Air Louis Stoddard, chairman of the American Polo Association, lias invited the Alount Crawford (South Australia) team to come to Caliloruia ibis winter to compete in important tournaments.

The invitation is the result of activity on the part of Air Janies Ashton, AI.L.C. (N.S.W.), and his sons, Geofrey and Robert, as well as the remarkable showing of the Australian polo ponies with the British international team, '['lie Australian mare Alineola won the title of the best pony at the show during the annual polo exhibition last, week, competing against the best American and Argentine mounts. Mount Crawford was invited, as the winners of the Australian Gold Cup, two years ago. American polo circles hope that an acceptance will inaugurate a series of international matches between the United States and Australia. 'l'lie Mount Crawford team would remain through the summer season here, competing in the big Eastern louriiaments.

The Australian players, if they went Lo California, would meet the best Americans, including probably all the members of this year’s international team, as well as the crack Argentine team.

Mr Ken Austin, secretary of the New South Wales Polo Association, said that an invitation to send an Australian team had been received a fortnight ago from the American association. However, arrangements could not lie made in lime, and it was extremely unlikely that a team would go across Ibis year. A team —Mount Crawford—would visit America in 11)28, the personnel being probably the Alurray Brothers (two), 'Ronald Angus and Gordon Law-Smith.

Furthermore, the N.S.AV. Association cabled Air Ashton to make an offer to the American association for a team to go to Australia.
