KAPITI ISLAND.
VISITED BY LADY FERGUSSON.
Wellington, Yesterday
Lady Alice Fcrgusson and party visited Kapiti Island scenic reserve and bird sanctuary last weekend. They made excursions to different parts, including a tramp to the trig station, 1725 feet, the highest part of the island. In the vicinity of the caretaker’s cottage the birds are quite tame and come for food and sweetened water. A chorus begins with the dawn and only ceases with nightfall. The bush is looking very beautiful just now and the recovery of the undergrowth since the disappearance of .the goats is very remarkable. Her Excellency was delighted with the visit and made a number of pretty sketches and paintings of the bush scenery.
