PLUNKET SOCIETY.
The monthly committee meeting of the local branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket Offiice on Monday afternoon, presided over by Mrs. F. Robinson (President). Also present were Mesdames C. Edwards, A. Ross, J. Chrystall, A. Heasman, F. Procter, D. Christie, W. Trueman, M. E. Perreau, G. F. S'mith, Jk H. Downes, C. A. Pearson, M. B. Bergin, D. R. Barron, A. Stevenson, R. Roore, W. H. Walton, and R. McMurray (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames A. Baker, S. Easton, S. E. Cowley, and D. Ogilvy. The nurse’s monthly report showed visits to Foxton 5, to homes 73, adults visits to office 110, babies 103, other children 39, total visits to offiice 252, new cases 4, letters 5.
Correspondence was read from the Central Council re interim conference. —Received. <
A donation of £2 2s was- forwarded by the Borough Council.— Received with thanks.
Mrs. J. H. Downes wrote tendering her resignation owing to her leaving the district.— Accepted with regret. Mrs. A. ,Ross was appointed flower steward and Mesdames Trueman and; Chrystall visitors for the month.
The proceeds of Mr. I. Corn’s weighing machine were 7/-; office box, 12/11.
FAREWELL AND PRESENTATION TO MRS. DOWNES.
At the conclusion of the business members entertained Mrs. Downes at a farewell tea, during which the President on behalf of those present, asked Mrs. Downes to accept a cream tureen as a token of esteem and remembrance. In doing so, Mrs. Robinson referred to Mrs. Downes’ connection with the Society’s activities as a member of the committee, stating that Mrs. Downes had been a most willing and enthusiastic worker and that the members would miss her very much. She wished her health and happiness in her new home and trusted she would continue to take an interest in Plunket work in Nelsoii. Mrs. Downes briefly thanked the members for their good wishes and token of esteem. She very much regretted severing her connection with the local Society as the work had always been interesting, anc congenial. In conclusion she wished the Society every success for the future.
On Tuesday afternoon the members of the Foxton Croquet Club took the opportunity to farewell Mrs. Downes. The President (Mrs.. M. E. Perreau), on behalf of the members, presented Mrs. Downes with a crystal cruet as a small token of the esteem in which she was held by Club members. In making the presentation, Mrs. Perreau referred to Mrs. Downes’ association with the club as a, player 'and also as secretary, in which capacity she had acted for two years. Members were all sorry to lose Mrs. Downes, and she would carry the best wishes of the club for happiness in her new home.
Mrs. Downes thanked members for the expressions of goodwill and the gift.
