METHODIST CIRCUIT.
QUARTERLY MEETING.
The above was held at Foxton on Wednesday evening last, when there were present, Rev. S. Peryman, presding, and Messrs Chrystall and Riches (circuit stewards), Dorset, Walker, Westwood, L. Bullard, Howe, H. Osborne and Mrs. Osborne. Notwithstanding removals of members to other circuits, a considerable increase in membership was reported. This was mainly due to the enrolment of junior members in the Sunday School. Thanks to special efforts by the ladies at Shannon and Foxton, the balance-sheet showed a most satisfactory reduction of the circuit debt. Satisfaction was expressed with the work of the Sunday Schools in Foxton and Shannon, and the offi-' cers and teachers were eulogised for their services. Mi- L. Bullard, Missionary Secretary of the circuit, reported that whilst the response for Foreign Missions had been very poor (only some £4 to date), yet the Home Mission contributions, thanks to the Maori party, promised to be over £3O. It was pointed out that the amounts raised by the local Ladies’ Auxiliary would also be credited in the Circuit F.M. contributions. Mr. Chrystall, as circuit steward, expressed a desire to invite the minister to remain for a fifth year in the circuit. Mr. Peryman, however, said that owing to medical advice he would be compelled to ask the conference for superannuation as from April next. The appointment of a successor was left in the hands of the conference. It was resolved to ask the conference to constitute Foxton a Home Mission station, with a grant of £3O. In the event of this not being done a grant of £6O was asked for. Mr. and Mrs. J. Swindlehurst, of Shannon, were appointed as representatives to the District Synod, which is to be held at Napier in November. Mrs. Barber, Shannon, and Mr. ,J. Chrystall, Foxton, were elected substitute representatives. By a silent standing vote sympathy was expressed with Mr. Jaggcr and his family in the death of Mrs. .Tagger. Pleasure was expressed at the restoration to health of Mrs. L. Bullard. The next meeting was fixed for Shannon, on Wednesday, January 12,1928. - Rev. S- Peryman, was granted •leave of absence for a fortnight or for a longer term, if necessary. At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs. H. Osborne dispensed supper, which had been provided, by the ladies, to those present, for which a hearty vote of thanks was accoided.
