PETER B. KYNE’S DRAMA AT
TOWN HALL.
The most picturesque region in. the world furnishes the background for “The Understanding Heart,” a screen version of Peter B. Kyne’s novel, which Jack Conway. directed for the Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer, and is showing at the Town Hall to-night. It is the land of the big timber ini California, and concerns the band of faithful guardians who constantly watch over the country to save it from the ravages of fire. Expanses of scenic beauty greet the eye constantly, and the spectator is given several exquisite views of Yosemite Nation- ( al Park. Against this outdoor beauty is set ; one of the most virile romances of the year. Jack 'Conway, best known as the director of “Brown of Harvard,” has endowed Kyne’s story with interest and realism, which reaches its climax in a spectacular forest fire. Miss Crawford plays the part of the daughter of a forest ranger, who, on the death of her father, takes charge of a lookout station. She gives a finesse to the portrayal that is unusual in a girl so young. Second only to Miss. Crawford in acting honours is Francis X. Bushman, Jnr., the'young actor who gives promise of repeating his famous father’s popularity. Bushman plays the part of the young forest ranger, who is in love with Monica. With “Jonah Jones” (star comedy), News, and N.Z. Scenic, at usual
prices. Jack London’s famous dog story “The call of the Wild,” will head Monday’s programme. It is probably London’s best book and the leading role is played by Buck, another almost human dog actor. With supports at usual prices.
