Messrs J. Linklater and J. A. Nash, M’s.P., were visitors to Foxton yesterday. Mr. F. A. Mason, headmaster of the local District High Scdiool, resumed duty yesterday, after his re- ■ cent absence on sick leave.
Mrs. W|alkcr, relieving teacher at the local District High School, was transferred to the Ashhurst school and took up her duties there yesterday.
Mr. E. A. Campbell, who has been manager of the Bank of New Zealand in Greytown for several years, and who was previously at Rongotea, retires on superannuat ion on November 30 of this year.
Mr. R. Acheson, barrister and solicitor, late of Levin, has commenced the practice of his profession in Greytown. Mr. Acheson is no stranger to the Wairarapa as he previously practised there from 1888 to it)os.
Mr. W. Nye, who has been a members of All Saints’ vestry for many years, was elected parishioners church warden at a meeting of parishioners last week to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late Mr. A. S. Easton.
Mr. W. 11. Smith, of Moutoa, has been elected by the shareholders of Ibt Shannon Co-operative Dairy Co., by a substantial majority, to fill the vacancy on the directorate caused by the death of Mr. P. W. Brown. Mr. Smith will take his scat at next Thursday’s meeting. The death occurred in Palmerston on Sunday oj: Captain Sydney Vincent Trask, aged 'SO, for many years connected with the Defence Department as Paymaster. He was a son of the late Hon. Francis Trask.
A Press Association message from Nelson announces the death of (lie Rt. Rev. Charles Oliver Mules, D.D., formerly Bishop of Nelson, in his'9lst year. Bishop Mules was held in the very highest esteem by all sections of the community. Mrs. Feilden Taylor, of Wellington, is a daughter of the late Bishop. The death occurred at William Street, Ashburton, yesterday of a well-known and highly esteemed resident of that town in the person of Mr. J. Jessop, aged 67 years. Deceased was born in Nelson and removed to Ashburton about 40 years ago. Mesdames P. W. Brown and Wfestwood, of Foxton, are sisters of deceased and Mr. C. Clark, of Foxton, is a half-brother.
The death occurred at his residence Kohi, Waverley, yesterday, of a very well-known former resident of the Manawatu in the person of Mr. Henry Godfrey Hammond. The deceased gentleman was born at Waitohi, Rongotea, fifty-one years ago. He married Miss Greenaway, of Glen Oroua, and lived on his farm in Oroua Downes until two years 1 ago when the family moved to the. Waverley district. The late Mr. Hammond was for a period a member of the Manawatu County Council.
