FLAXMILLERS’ ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE,
A meeting of the executive of the New’ Zealand'' Flaxmillers’ Association was held in Palmerston North on Thursday, presided over by Mr. H. A. Seifert (chairman). Also present were Messrs J. S. Moir, H. Seifert, A. A. Brown, A. Fraser, H. Berry, and W. Nye. Dissatisfaction was expressed at the decision of the Department of Agriculture to forward a set of samples for the executive of the Association who required the same for educational purposes and were prepared to pay for the same. Pleasure was expressed that the appointment of an instructor would be made as soon as possible by Ihe Department. It was resolved to apply to the secretary of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation for a ruling on the right of millers to employ by the day men for whom piece-work rates were paid. It was decided to write to the Railway Department pointing out that a complaint had been received from a southern flaxmiller that coal trucks were used for the transport of flax..
It was resolved that a deputation consisting of Messrs 11. Seifert, J. S. Moir and A. Ross, with power to add interview the Minister of Agriculture if possible on October 5, regarding the Government bonus for improving methods of milling flax.
It was Vesolved to forward to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation on October 13 two remits: —(a), That this Association favours the abolition of the Arbitration Court; (b), regarding the matter of medical attention for injured workers. The chairman reported that two o(Fleets had been appointed to carry on research work in connection with the industry.
