The Prince of Wales recently made his third descent of a coalmine, when lie spent half-an-hour in a pit which runs out two miles under the sea at Whitehaven. Ice-cream merchants crowded the Italian. Church, in Clerkenwell, London, recently, when a special service was held to pray for fine weather to help their trade.
Auckland is soon to see the “tin hare,” which has so quickly galloped its way into favour in the Old Country and in Australia. A parent company has been formed in Auckland and throughout New Zealand subsidiary companies will be formed to carry on the sport in various towns.
There is a magpie who makes his home at Belmont Golf Links, Wanganui, (every .nesting season and frequently attacks golfers driving from the fourteenth tee. This week , he displayed, new tactics in attacking a local business man, states the Chronicle. Just as the player was driving off, the bird circled in the air high above his head and hurtled down in a nose dive that would have done credit to the most expert “ace.” Fortunately other golfers were able to attract the attention of their colleague before the bird succeeded in his intention. It is claimed that there are more “foozled” drivers from this tee than from any other on the links as. the player’s attention has to be divided between the bird and the ball.
