SKELETON OF INFANT FOUND.

under house. Auckland, September 24. A gruesome discovery was made last night in a house in Vauxhall Road, which is occupied by Mrs. Hayson, a widower. Her son, aged 16, was hunting with a lighted candle under the house for some bicycle parts when he discovered in a recess in the foundation of the chimney the skeleton of a child, apparently from two to three years old, in the brickwork. An investigation by an elder brother showed that the skull was detached from the body and lying on the one side, together with the leg of another skeleton.

Mrs. Hayson has lived in the house for about 18 months. Her daughter on several occasions endeavoured to locate an offensive smell, which, however, has not been noticed recently.
