NEWS AND NOTES.
Members of the public send about 9000 different inventions affecting motor omnibuses to the London General Omnibus Company every year.
“This man found £SO in an old box about a fortnight ago. It was part of a gratuity that he had forgotten. As a result, sir, he has not seen daylight since.” This ‘was the apt description of a constable the other day in the Napier Police Court in making an application for a prohibition order against the defendant described.
A simple little invention has disturbed the unofficial smoke-oh which some lorry drivers usually have about 10 o’clock in the morning, says an Auckland paper. It can be fixed to a lorry, or any moving vehicle, and records, unknown to" the driver, every time the vehicle stops, and for how long. Trouble may await the driver who makes unofficial halts in his employers’ time. The little tell-tale instrument records everything. The instrument is a very small affair, containing a clock and a metal face, over which is placed a circular card The card has a sensitive surface so that the shaking movement of the vehicle to which it is attached marks round the edge of the card very distinctly. The card is fixed firmly, and is carried round by the block, and therefore records the time the vehicle is away, the time it, is kept moving, and .the length of time it stops. The instrument can be fixed to a vehicle of any kind, and cannot be interfered wifib as it is locked by the person who fits it to the vehicle.
