PETROL TAX SUGGESTED.

BY MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL. At yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council a letter was received from the Tauranga County Council requesting support to a resolution to the effect that .users of roads should pay the whole of the cost of maintaining same. After some discussion it was resolved: “That whilst not prepared to support the resolution of the Tauranga County Council in its present form, that body be informed that this Council is in favour of an approved proposal that would place more money at the disposal of the Main Highways Board (such as a petrol tax), so that the subsidy to local bodies could he increased.”
