INVESTIGATION OF ROADING SCHEME.
BY HOROWHENUA COUNTY.
The Main Highways scheme in the Horowhenua County, which has been repeatedly criticised in the Council, is to form the subject of a comprehensive inquiry by a special committee, which was set up at Saturday’s meeting. “We have got to take stock as far as our Main Highway work is concerned,” said the chairman (Mr. G. A. Monk), “and it is best for a eomfmittee to report to the nextmeeting of the Works Committee. In the report of the Works Committee there was a recommendation that the Engineer be instructed to supply the committee at their next meeting with a return of Main Highway construction costs for the month, including should work strengthening, metal crushing, and delivery. At the chairman’s request, the above recommendation was withdrawn, and he moved as follows: “That the chairman and Crs. Ryder, Catley, Barber and Whyte be a special committee to consider the position of main highways expenditure and surh other matters as may be; deemed expedient in connection therewith, and report to the next meeting of the Works Committee.” The motion was seconded by Cr. Catley and carried without discussion.
