OBITUARY.

CHARLES HAROLD PODMORE, AGED 61 YEARS. It is with regret that we have to record the death of Mr. Charles Harold Podmore, a resident of this district for the past 20 years, which took place at the Palmerston North Hospital on Thursday, after a'brief illness. The late Mi’. Podmore, who was 61 years of age, was born in Manchester, England, in 1866 and came out to New Zealand as a child with his parents. Mr. Podmore received his early education in the Dominion’s capital and later served his apprenticeship in the blacksmith’s trade in that city, after which he removed to Australia, where he resided, for a number of years in the Gippsland district, Victoria. Returning to New Zealand in 1903, deceased settled in Palmerston North and twenty years ago took up his residence locally where for many years he carried on business as a blacksmith and wheelwright. The late Mr. Podmore was predeceased by his wife some three years ago and leaves a grown-up family of three sons: Adjutant A. Podmore of the Salvation Army (Te Aroha), Harry (Foxton), and Leonard (Otahuhu), and one daughter, Mrs. A. Boag (of Auckland). The funeral will take place at Foxton to-moi’row afternoon. JOHN EDWARD GILLESPIE. The death took place at the Palmerston N. Hospital on Thursday of Mr John Edward Gillespie, a wellknown ex-resident of Foxton, aged 45 years. Deceased was born in Palmerston North, being a son of the late Mr and Mrs John Gillespie. Foq a nuyiber of years prior to the war he was in business in Foxton as a dr apex’, selling out to go overseas. On returning to New Zealand, he started farming on Gillespie’s Line, and was so engaged right up till the time of his death. He was the breeder of Master Strowan, Rowan, and Evening Glow, three wellknown performers on the racing track. Until a month ago he had enjoyed good health. A widow is left to mourn his passing. There are five brothers —Messrs J. F. and P. Gillespie (Palmerston North), W. Gillespie (Dannevirkef, A. Gillespie (Wanganui), and R. Gillespie (W ellington) and four sisters Miss Elsie Gillespie and Mesdames Jewell and Howarth (Palmerston N.) and Mrs Brosnahan (Oamaru).
