“SPECTRE” IN A CHURCH.

TRICK OF SUN’S RAYS

During several days in July worshippers attending the services in the church of St. Pierre le Jeune at Strasbourg were astonished to see a kind of spectre near tjje altar. The figure was crowned with a red aureole and appeared and disappeared

intermittently. On investigation' it was found'to be an optical effect produced by the refraetjon of the rays of the sun passing through the angle of a stained-glass window. The “Ague” naturally moved with the. sun’s rays, but, in addition, the branches of a tree outside, stirred by the wind, caused it to appear and disappear as they brushed against the window.
