FOUR MONTHS FOR THEFT.
LOCAL LAD IN TROUBLE. William Spence, a labourer, of' Foxton, aged 19 years, answered two charges of theft, ohe of stealing from John Frederick Carl Prentice, a gold ring valued at £3, the other of stealing from William John Frizze!], the sum of £1 19s in money at the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M. Accused pleaded guilty to both charges. “The accused has been employed at Miranui Mills,” stated SeniorSergeant O’Gradj. “He went back there after he had been dismissed to get some of his things, and while there he took the gold ring. On the 24th he went back again and took the money, which was in a trousers pocket near the door of a whare. He has been convicted twice before, and has been on probation.” His Worship remarked that probation seemed to be doing no good, and entered a sentence of 3 months’ ** imprisonment on the first charge, and one month on the second.
