MT. SINAI DISCOVERED.
DANISH DOCTOR’S CLAIM. Copenhagen, August 12. Dr. Ditlef Nielsen has returned from Egypt, Palestine, Trans-jor-dania, and Arabia, where he obtained valuable scientific results? He believes that he is able to prove that he discovered Mount .Sinai, where Moses promulgated the Ten Commandments. Mount Sinai is not, he states, on the Sinai peninsula, but in the mountains of Edom, south of the Dead Sea. The British Government afforded great help to Dr. Nielsen’s researches in Northern Arabia. His discoveries have aroused great interest in foreign scientific, archaeological, and religious circles. The precise locality of the Biblical Mount Sinai has always been a matter of controversy. The Peninsula of Sinai, a barren, waterless desert, could never have accommodated 2,000,000 souls, nor does it contain a mountain rising so sharply that its base could be fenced in, while it was easily ascended, and its summit could be seen by a greatmultitude below. Many other sites have been suggested, but hitherto no definite identification of the mountain has been made.
