THE ELECTORATES.

FEW CHANGES. ALTERATIONS IN NAMES. The final decisions of the Electoral Boundaries Commission were published in a Supplementary Gazette on Saturday. Few changes have been made, as the result of objecting petitions, to the provisional boundaries ,originally defined by the Commissioners. Some changes

in the names of electorates have been effected.

• In the Auckland district there is a new electorate called Auckland Suburbs, which from the description given in the “Gazette” appears to comprise the greater part of the old Eden electoral district. Eden formerly was realy a semi-rural electorate. The new Eden, which when the boundaries were provisionally published was described as Auckland South, now becomes a city electorate, bounded by the boundaries of Grey Lynn, Auckland Central, and Auckland East, and extending down towards the Manukau road locality. There are no material changes in the other Auckland City electorates . The new electorate which was provisionally named Mercer is re-named Hauraki, and takes in the greater part of the Thames electorate. Ohinemuri is done away with and absorbed in Hauraki, Thames, Tauranga, and Waikato. There have been slight amendments in Tauranga, which now extends along the Bay of Plenty #oastline to the boundary of the Bay of Plenty district near Whakatane, and along the north of Roto Ehu and Rotoma Lakes. The new name New Plymouth, as applied to Taranaki, stands. It is understood that petitions were lodged in Wellington in respect to the Willis street area, but it does not appear that any alteration has been made in regard to the boundaries as provisionally re-arranged. The other local city electorates remain'as described previously. ' IN THE GOUTH ISLAND. The abolition of the Ashburton electorate has been confirmed by the Commission. The new electorate formed by the merging of Ashburton and Ellesmere, however, is not to be called Ellesmere, as formerly proposed, but Mid-Canterbury. It is observed- that in the Otago district Central Otago is the name given to the old Wfakatipu electorate. The ,provisiona|l boundaries gave the new name as Otago Central, but it appears that the Commissioners have considered Central Otago imore suitable. Other electorates are not affected to any large extent.
