THE HEMP MARKET.
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE.
The High Commissioner’s cablegram dated the 13th instant, reads: —Hemp Manila market steadier. “J” grade afloat and June-August shipments sold at £44; August-Oe-tober shipments quoted at £43 10s. The output to Ist August was 742,000 bales against 773,000 for same period last year. The stosks in Manila on Ist August were 139,000 bales against 191,000 and in Great Britain 5,578 bales against 26,331. The Sisal market is quiet. Tanganyika No. 1 August-October shipments quoted at £3B and No. 2 at £37 per ton. Good quality is in demand, value No. 1 £32. The New Zealand market is quiet with value August-October shipments high points £35 10s; fair £34 and common £33.
