Dr. Cleary, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, returned by the Aorangi on Sunday after five months abroad. When in Ireland he secured seven young priests for New Zealand who arrive before Christmas. Dr. Cleary says that Italy seemed very prosperous. Apparently there was no unemployment there. There was an air of prosperity and happiness about Ireland.

At last week’s meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery the Rev. G. K. Aitken intimated his intention to resign from the charge at Kaiapoi, acting upon medical ad.viee. Mr. Aitken commenced his ministry over 43 years ago, and has been in the New Zealand Church for over 20 years, his first charge being Poxton which at that time included preaching stations at Carnarvon, Glen Oroua, fiakitahuna, Rangiotu and Foxton.
