At Wanganui on Saturday, Southland defeated Wanganui by 19 points to 14. The Auckland reps, defeated Taranaki at New Plymouth on Saturday by 23 points to nil. BEBBINGTON iSHIELD MATCH. Horowhenua successfully defended the Bebbington Shield at Levin on Saturday when they defeated Orona by 47 points to 21. The challengers were, for three parts of the game, hopelessly outclassed, Horowhenua’s lead halfway through the second spell standing at 44 points to 8. From then on, however they appeared to let up, and Oroua taking advantage of the respite, quickly added another 13 points to, their total. THIRD GRADE TRIAL RESULTS IN DRAW. The third grade trial match played at Weraroa on Saturday, between Wanderers-Weraroa Awahou and Shannon-Foxton-Paraparaumu resulted in a draw, the scores being three all. N The total takings at the Horo-vvlienua-Oroua rep. football match in Levin on Saturdav were £33 10s 9d. * TEAM FOR WELLINGTON. The Horowhenua primary schools football team to play Wellington Schools B reps, on Saturday, August 20th, on the Levin Domain, is as under: — Full-back : M. Gardner (Foxton); three-quarters: IL Gardner (Foxton), Campbell (Ohau), Jude (Shannon); five-eights: Matthews (Foxton), Hirini (Foxton); half: Coley (Foxton); forwards: Hookers, Elliott (Ohau), and Everitt (Otaki); lock: Royal (Ohau); sides: Booker (Shannon), and Christian (Shannon); back: Procter (Levin), and Williams (Levin); wing-for-ward: George (Ohau). Emergencies:—Full-back or half: Curtis (Levin); five-eights or threequarters: Saxon (Shannon), Taha (Ohau); forwards: Rickerby (Foxton), Webbey (Otaki). MANAWHENUA REPRESENTATIVES. The following is the complete Manawhenua represehtative touring team which will leave Palmerston N. to-morrow on their northern tour: — Williamson, McDonald, Hunt, Mullins, T. Parata, W. Parata, Goldfinch, Dewe, Roberts, Jacob (capt.), Persson, Cowdrey, Hakaraia, Galpin, Parsons, Heatley, Payne, Hammond, Crawford, Tremewan. The tour will open at Ohakune on Wednesday, when Manawhenua will try conclusions with King Country. From there the team will proceed to Auckland and on the following Saturday meet Auckland’s elect. On August 24 and 27 the combined team will be filling engagements versus Waikato at Hamilton, and Wellington at Wellington respectively. In view of the fact that Manawhenua are the provisional holders of the Ranfurly Shield, the results of the northern tour will be of considerable interest.
